If I leave SP-1/HP-1 attached to my guitar, will it harm its finish?

SP-1 and HP-1 have rubber contact points where they touch the instrument which will protect the surface against scratches and marks on most modern finishes. However, there are types of finishes (nitrocellulose, often used on vintage instruments) where a reaction can occur between the rubber and the finish of the top. Can SG-1/2 be used with nylon strings or NG-1/2 with metal strings?
