MP-2 PICKUP

Low-profile portable bridge-mounted piezo with volume control for mandolin

MP-2 is a portable piezo pickup for mandolin, engineered and handcrafted by KNA.

The innovative design allows an entirely external setup without any modifications to the instrument. The complete installation can be completed within a matter of minutes.

The amplified tone is balanced and natural, providing full frequencies from bass to treble registers of the mandolin.

Features

Safe and quick install

Just mount the pickup jack housing onto the lower bout, just below the F-hole on your instrument's 1st (E) string pair side. Insert the wooden sensor into the bridge, between the base and the top, in the middle of the thumbwheels.

Onboard volume control

Players can control their output signal onstage or in the studio from the pickup-mounted volume knob.

Wood housing and sensor

The jack housing is encased in elegant and stylish ebony. The piezo sensor has a lightweight wooden casing to achieve maximum tonal sensitivity and transmission.

Natural sound

MP-2 has a passive design that reproduces the instrument's natural sound with no need for a battery.

Protection for your instruments finish

The adjustable clamps have protective cork at each point of contact to prevent damage to your instrument’s finish.

Compatible with all types of flat-backed mandolins

The pickup is designed to fit perfectly on A- and F- body style flat-backed mandolins with adjustable base-and-top style bridges.

Instructions

Follow our installation guide through the following steps:

Choose the most convenient place for the jack housing depending on your styling of playing, out of the way of your strumming hand, and making it easy to insert the instrument cable into the output jack. We recommend installing the jack housing onto the lower bout, just below the F-hole on your instrument's 1st (E) string pair side.

Extend the clamps by holding the jack housing and the bottom feet of the clamp while loosening the center barrels. After choosing the desired position, tighten the barrels with the provided metal key.

Install the wooden sensor into the bridge between the base and the top. If the area between the top and base of the bridge is too wide, use the included wooden shims to place under the sensor until it fits securely. Line up the necessary number of shims underneath the sensor and slide the whole assembly into the opening.

The sensor should be facing up with the logo side and positioned through the bridge's middle. The sensor should be pushed through enough to show the full logo on the other side of the bridge. The sensor should fit tightly but install without excessive force. It should not move while playing the mandolin, but not too tight where the sensor or bridge can be damaged or broken. If it is too tight, the sound may be compromised as well. The best sound is usually found when the sensor is positioned in the center of the bridge, but we encourage you to experiment by moving the sensor slightly toward the bass or treble side to find the sweet spot on your instrument.

With the volume off, plug one end of your instrument cable into your pickup and the other into your favorite high-impedance acoustic amplifier. Hold the jack housing with one hand while attaching and detaching the cable. Always use a quality instrument cable.

Adjust the volume level with the onboard potentiometer, and you are now ready to enjoy your new pickup!
